Are You Really Ready For Winter Storms in Michigan?

We all know that Michigan can be a bitch when it comes to bone-chilling cold. So the question is, are you ready for it when she really kicks into high gear?

When it comes to your home, it’s always smart to make sure all doors and windows are closed and sealed.  It also doesn’t hurt to leave your water flowing just enough to prevent your pipes from freezing.  And be sure to be stocked up on food and water (Better Made Chips, Halo Burger, Vernors and Faygo), as well as flashlights and batteries in case of a power outage.

We’ve seen too many times, heartbreaking stories of families being killed from carbon monoxide poisoning by running generators improperly.  You should NEVER run a generator inside your house or garage.  They need to be outside away from any doors (and in the summer windows).

When it comes to driving, make sure to clear snow and ice from not only your windows, but your headlights and tail lights as well.  It’s always a good idea to keep your washer fluid topped off, and keep a blanket or two in your car just in case.  When parking, lift your wipers up off your windshield to keep them from getting stuck in the ice. Always drive with your lights on, and take your time.  It’s worth the wait to get there alive!
