The Radio World Bids Farewell to Joe Wade Formicola, The Fox’s ‘Tommy B.’

It is with a heavy heart and a great deal of shock that share the sad news that radio legend Joe Wade Formicola, aka Tommy B., has passed away.

Formicola made a name for himself in Flint at WFDF in the 70s and 80s, that name was Tommy B. Joe went on to host mornings on W4 Country from 1987 to 1995, became host of a syndicated show on Westwood One from 2010 to 2015.

He returned to the Flint airwaves and joined 103.9 The Fox in 2015 as news anchor ‘Tommy B.’, reviving his previous alias. He served in that capacity until March of this year. After an illness that was all too brief, Joe Formicola passed away last night (5/30/2017). His death comes less than a month before he was due to be inducted into the Country Radio Hall of Fame.

Joe is now the second former member of the WYCD staff who were to be inducted this year, who have passed away. Along with Linda Lee who passed two months ago, Joe will be honored posthumously on June 21st.

To the Formicola family, I feel your loss and send you my deepest sympathies. To the WYCD family, I can’t imagine how difficult it is to lose not one, but two fantastic talents in such a short time. I send you my condolences as well.

I couldn’t agree more with the sentiment of Don Carpenter of WYCD who said, “If there’s a country radio station in Heaven, then it’s got one helluva morning show. Rest in Peace, my friends. #RIPJWF, #RIPLindaLee #RIPBobSchuman.”
